Barron Maskew Barron Maskew is a band director at Hickory High School and freelance musician living in Norfolk, VA. He is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a B.M. in Music Education. He currently works with The Williams School, teaching 4th - 8th grade instrumental lessons; Hickory High School, teaching the marching band; and Old Dominion University, teaching the Monarch Marching Band.
Previously he was the head Band and Orchestra Director at Parkville high School in Parkville, MD. There he gained experience in a multitude of ensemble classes including marching band, jazz band, string orchestra, guitar, steel drums, percussion ensemble, and wind ensemble. Barron has also served as a Visual Tech and co-caption head of Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps and Carolina Gold Winds since the 2014 season. He is currently the music caption head. Barron is also an active drill writer and visual instructor, writing most recently for the ODU Marching Band and for the ODU Drumline in their performance with the Virginia International Tattoo.
In his experience he has been a member of Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps (2009 and 2010 seasons) and Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (2012 season) as a member of the contra section where he was a DCI World Finalist and a member of a Jim Ott Award and John Brazale Award winning horn line. He has also played in multiple community ensembles including the Bel Air Community Band, the Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra, and Virginia Wind Symphony. He is currently the sousaphone player for Broken Bottle Brass Band.
